Abstract: Quantum Technologies and especially Quantum Computing are strongly evolving fields in HEP. There are several initiatives on national, European and international level.
In Germany, the Deutsches Elektronen-Synchrotron – DESY, in its role as the German national hub for HEP, had established a Quantum Technology Task Force almost two years ago. This Task Force is in the process of building “DESY. QUANTUM”, an institutional organization bundling the various activities for Quantum Technologies at DESY to benefit from synergy effects.
DESY.QUANTUM presently comprises three pillars:
Quantum Computing: exploring and employing the potential for theoretical calculations and experimental simulation and reconstruction algorithms as well as developing methods for efficient Quantum Computing like error mitigation and quantum gate circuit optimization.
Quantum Sensing: as evolving and enabling technology, already applied in one DESY experiment.
Quantum Materials: employing DESY’s unique and brilliant photon sources for studies aiming at the fundamental understanding of quantum phenomena in materials towards the development of tailor-made materials for quantum technology devices, including innovative qubit systems.
In my talk I will report on these activities with ongoing projects and highlighting recent achievements and publications.
